Diana Popa, Vergnet’s Head of Sales in Europe and North America, commented: “We are delighted to announce the opening of our new UK subsidiary in Ripley, Derbyshire. The last five years have seen major growth for medium wind projects here with capacity rising 60% year-on-year. This has been supported by the government’s Feed-In Tariff (FiT) which remains attractive and offers strong returns.
The new UK subsidiary confirms our continued commitment to the UK market supports our growth strategy and most importantly brings us closer to our increasing base of UK customers who rely on our full after-sales services and operations and maintenance (O&M) to keep their wind turbines operating at maximum performance.”
Vergnet works with partners and developers in the UK to provide high performance wind turbines for medium wind energy projects from 200 to 500kW. To date, the company has installed medium scale wind turbines on farms in Cornwall, Leicester, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Suffolk, East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Northern Ireland.
At last year’s All Energy event, Vergnet launched a dedicated O&M service, which has since proven successful with wind turbine owners in the UK. This growth, alongside continued investment by partners, farmers and landowners in UK medium wind projects, is behind the Vergnet’s decision to open the new subsidiary.
Vergnet currently employs almost 185 people in its wind energy division with 70% of the workforce employed in design, engineering and operations and maintenance. Alongside the new subsidiary, the company recently recruited key employees in key operational and sales roles in the UK.
Vergnet is exhibiting at the All-Energy Exhibition and Conference in Glasgow from 6-7th May at stand J50. The event brings together over 6,000 people from around the world including farmers and developers covering topics such as wind, solar and renewable heat.
Over 60% of UK farmers are expected to invest in some form of renewable technology in the next five years with over a tenth expected to have a wind turbine on their land by 2019.
